Wales aim for clean sheet in World Cup play‑off first leg

Wales will travel to face Albania on Friday for the first leg of the Women’s World Cup play‑off semi‑final, and their primary objective is to prevent the opposition from scoring. According to BBC Sport, the team’s coaching staff have stressed the importance of a clean sheet as a platform for a favourable result in the return match.

Goalkeeper Rhian Wilkinson, who has been a regular starter for the Welsh side, is expected to lead the defensive effort. Her experience and shot‑stopping ability are seen as crucial in a tie where every goal can swing the aggregate balance.

The match will also serve as a benchmark for Wales’ overall defensive organization, with the back line expected to stay compact and disciplined. A solid performance could give the squad confidence heading into the second leg, where they will look to secure qualification for the World Cup.
