The GuardianSouthampton manager Tonda Eckert receives six‑week suspended ban over Spygate
According to The Guardian, the FA charged Southampton manager Tonda Eckert with misconduct following the club’s admission that it had spied on three Championship rivals. The disciplinary panel imposed a six‑week ban, which will remain suspended until the end of next season, allowing Eckert to stay on the touchline for the upcoming fixtures.
Southampton were also penalised with a four‑point deduction and expelled from last season’s Championship play‑offs. In addition to the suspended ban, Eckert was fined £28,000 after acknowledging the charges. The club’s involvement in the Spygate scandal has drawn widespread criticism from rivals and supporters alike.
Eckert is expected to lead the team in Sunday’s home derby against Portsmouth, marking his first match back after the ruling. Fans can find highlights of the Portsmouth clash and other recent Southampton games on this site.
