Ronaldo says he’s not retiring, but wants ‘punishment’ for leaving Portugal

Portugal’s all‑time leading scorer Cristiano Ronaldo told the media that he has no intention of retiring from international football, despite recent speculation following his departure from the national squad.

Ronaldo said he walked out of the team camp after head coach Jorge Jesus “broke his word to me”, adding that he believes a form of punishment is justified for his own actions, even though he remains committed to the Portugal jersey.

The striker’s comments come after a brief fallout with the coach, which saw him leave the training base without an official announcement of retirement. Ronaldo stressed that his decision was driven by a personal sense of accountability rather than a desire to abandon the national side.

The Portuguese Football Federation has not yet commented on the remarks. Fans can watch related match highlights on this site.
