Elmore: ‘Something I thought had passed’ as Northern Ireland debut in 4‑0 loss

Northern Ireland’s hopes of reaching the World Cup were effectively extinguished after a 4‑0 defeat to Portugal, according to BBC Sport. The loss leaves the side with a steep uphill battle in the remaining qualification fixtures.

For Kess Elmore, however, the evening held a personal milestone. The midfielder made his long‑awaited senior debut, describing the experience as “something I thought had passed”. He reflected that finally earning a cap was a rewarding moment despite the heavy scoreline.

Elmore’s introduction to international football comes at a challenging time for the squad, but the player remains hopeful that his involvement can contribute positively as Northern Ireland look to regroup and finish the campaign on a stronger note.
