Matthias Jaissle confirmed as Newcastle head coach after Al-Ahli release

Newcastle United have formally installed Matthias Jaissle as their new head coach, with the German succeeding Eddie Howe. According to The Guardian, the 38-year-old's move from Saudi Arabian side Al-Ahli was confirmed after the club finally supplied the necessary release paperwork.

Jaissle has been working with his new players at Newcastle's training camp in La Manga, southern Spain, since last Saturday. He said: “There is a clear vision. This is an incredibly compelling place to be.”

Al-Ahli, which like Newcastle falls under Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund ownership, were reluctant to lose Jaissle and took time to process his departure. The delay meant Newcastle had to wait for vital documents before officially announcing the appointment.
