Ella Toone called into England squad after Lucy Bronze withdraws

According to BBC Sport, Ella Toone, 24, has been named in the senior England women’s squad for the World Cup play‑off matches against Greece after defender Lucy Bronze pulled out of the group.

The call‑up arrives as Toone continues to feature regularly for Manchester United in the Women’s Super League, where she has been praised for her work rate and versatility in midfield. She will join the England training camp ahead of the two‑legged tie scheduled for later this month.

Bronze’s absence creates a gap in England’s defensive options, but coach Sarina Wiegman has a deep pool of experienced players to cover the loss. The inclusion of Toone signals confidence in younger talent emerging from the domestic league.

England will be looking to secure a place in the upcoming World Cup, while Greece will be eager to cause an upset. Toone adds depth to the midfield and will aim to make an immediate impact if called upon.
