Fifa accused of 'blackmail' over Infantino re-election support, says Jordan FA president

The president of the Jordan Football Association, Prince Ali bin Al Hussein, has accused Fifa of "blackmail", claiming the governing body threatened to withhold financial assistance unless Jordan supported Gianni Infantino's re-election bid. According to The Guardian, Prince Ali said the pressure represented yet another example of problems plaguing Fifa under its current leadership.

Prince Ali, who stood against Infantino for the Fifa presidency in 2016 and finished third, also revealed that Jordan's players have not yet been paid for their participation in the Arab Cup last year. He is the head of the West Asian Football Federation, a body that includes influential nations such as Qatar and the United Arab Emirates, both of which have so far backed Infantino.

The report also quotes a secretary general describing a proposed selloff plan as "sad and reproachable", adding to the criticism directed at Fifa's administration. The allegations come as Infantino seeks another term as Fifa president.
