De Zerbi backs Bentancur’s red card, praises player’s reaction

Tottenham manager Roberto De Zerbi said the red card shown to midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur was the right call, according to BBC Sport. He added that the referee’s decision was consistent with the rules and left no room for debate.

De Zerbi also highlighted that he liked seeing Bentancur’s “reaction” – the player’s willingness to stand up and contest the decision – and suggested that such fighting spirit is what he wants to see across the squad.

Speaking after Spurs’ 1‑1 draw at Manchester United, the Italian coach stressed that the attitude displayed by Bentancur could set a standard for the team moving forward, while also noting the need to improve overall performance. Readers can find match highlights on this site.
