Socceroos on the move: Lucas Herrington headlines post-World Cup transfers

According to The Guardian, Lucas Herrington is set to become the second-most expensive Australian footballer in history, with a move to newly promoted Hull City nearly complete. The 18-year-old defender, who recently became the youngest Australian to start a men's World Cup match, would join for a reported fee of around £12.6m ($24.1m), plus £4.4m ($8.4m) in add-ons.

That total would fall just short of the Australian record Leicester City paid Stoke City for Harry Souttar in 2023: £15m plus £5m in add-ons, worth $38.3m overall. For Colorado Rapids, Herrington's current club, the deal would represent a new selling high-water mark, and it would also eclipse the roughly £10m Hull paid for Ryan Mason a decade ago.

Herrington's rise has been rapid, and the move to the Premier League is expected to be confirmed soon. A handful of his Socceroos teammates have already completed transfers this window, with more likely to follow before the market closes. Readers can watch related match highlights on this site.
