Jorge Messi, father and agent of Argentina great Lionel Messi, dies aged 68

Jorge Messi, father and agent of Argentina great Lionel Messi, has died aged 68 at a medical clinic in Rosario, the family have announced. According to The Guardian, he died after a long illness.

Jorge spent his final months alternating between a medical centre in Rosario and his home, accompanied by his wife, Celia, and his children Rodrigo, Matías and María Sol.

Lionel Messi spent time with his father after the World Cup before rejoining Inter Miami, where he returned to action a week ago. The MLS club are due to host Monterrey on Saturday night in the Leagues Cup, but have yet to announce whether Messi will feature.
