Middlesbrough and Wrexham meet in Carabao Cup first round

Middlesbrough host Wrexham in the first round of the Carabao Cup at the Riverside Stadium, with an 8pm BST kick-off.

Middlesbrough’s pre-season included draws with Farense (2-2) and Celtic (1-1), a defeat to Huddersfield (1-3) and a 3-3 draw with Espanyol. Wrexham, meanwhile, faced a demanding friendly schedule, drawing 0-0 with Wisla Krakow, beating Manchester United 1-0 and Leeds 3-2, while losing to Liverpool 1-0 and Sunderland 1-0.

According to The Guardian, a Wrexham representative explained the careful preparation: “We haven’t trained much this week because it was important to ensure the lads had the rest they needed so their bodies could recover, but we’re going up there to give the best account of ourselves.”

They added: “It’s a fantastic experience to be over in America representing Wrexham, it really is, you almost have to see it to believe it. We’ve enjoyed that but now it’s full focus on the start of the season.”
