Liverpool agree loan deal for Barcelona's Ronald Araújo as defensive cover

Liverpool have agreed to sign Ronald Araújo on a season-long loan from Barcelona, according to The Guardian, as Andoni Iraola moves to bolster his defensive options.

The Uruguay international is expected to complete a medical before the move is finalised. The deal comes after Liverpool were left short at the back following the departure of Ibrahima Konaté to Real Madrid on a free transfer.

Concerns over Jérémy Jacquet, the France Under-21 defender who arrived last season for more than £50m, along with injuries to Joe Gomez and Giovanni Leoni, have reduced Iraola's central defensive alternatives.
