The GuardianRonaldo accuses Portugal coach of breaking promises, says he remains available
In a statement released on Thursday, 41‑year‑old Cristiano Ronaldo claimed that Portugal manager Jorge Jesus had broken promises made to him on two occasions. Ronaldo said an agreed public explanation for his exclusion from the Norway match never materialised, which prompted his departure from the squad in Copenhagen before the Nations League clash with Denmark.
Ronaldo’s account, cited by The Guardian, describes a failed agreement with the coach that left him feeling "betrayed" and forced him to exit the training camp. He added that the issue was not about his commitment to the national team but about the lack of follow‑through on the promised clarification.
Despite the dispute, Ronaldo emphasized that he will remain available for selection after any disciplinary action is taken. He reiterated his desire to contribute to Portugal’s campaign and said the decision to leave was made out of frustration, not a desire to quit.
Portugal’s next match against Denmark will go ahead as scheduled, and the federation has yet to comment on the internal disagreement. Fans can find the match highlights on this site.
