The GuardianWiegman lauds Toone’s professionalism after late England recall
Sarina Wiegman praised Manchester United midfielder Ella Toone for the way she handled being left out of England’s initial squad for the Women’s World Cup playoff against Greece, according to The Guardian.
Toone, who had organised her own training routine in Spain during the international window, reacted positively to the news and travelled to Crete on Friday for the first‑leg showdown in Heraklion.
The recall came after right‑back Lucy Bronze suffered a “really small” injury that forced her back to Chelsea, prompting Wiegman to bring Toone into the squad.
England will take the first leg of the two‑match playoff on Friday in Crete, with Toone joining the group after her stint in Spain. Readers can find the match highlights on this site.
