De Zerbi: ‘Lovely guy’ Richarlison important to Spurs after winner sinks Chelsea

Roberto De Zerbi has called on Richarlison to remain at Tottenham, describing the forward as a “lovely guy” and an important player after his stoppage-time winner earned 10-man Spurs a 2-1 pre-season victory over Chelsea in Sydney.

According to The Guardian, De Zerbi said: “He’s important, it’s not easy to find another striker.” The Italian’s comments come amid reports linking the Brazilian with a move away from north London.

Richarlison struck late to settle a friendly in which Spurs played most of the second half a man down after Kevin Danso was sent off minutes after coming on at half-time. The result gave De Zerbi’s side a morale-boosting win over their Premier League rivals.

Despite the manager’s wishes, Richarlison is reported to be unsure about his future. De Zerbi made clear his hope that the striker will stay, but the decision appears to rest with the player as the transfer window continues.
