The GuardianAlonso says Palmer remains committed to England despite injury absence
Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso has stressed that Cole Palmer is fully committed to playing for England, even though the 24‑year‑old missed the opening fixtures of this month’s Nations League because of a groin injury that limited him for much of last season. According to The Guardian, Alonso said the injury forced Palmer to withdraw from the England squad, but his ambition to represent his country remains unchanged.
Palmer is now back in action for Chelsea and is expected to start against Bournemouth on Saturday. The Blues’ manager Thomas Tuchel expressed disappointment at the missed international opportunity, noting that Palmer “misses too many opportunities” to feature for England and questioning whether the player truly wants to be part of the squad.
Alonso, however, countered that Palmer’s withdrawal was purely medical and reiterated his confidence that the attacker will continue to fight for a place in the England team. The upcoming Premier League clash with Bournemouth will be an early test of Palmer’s fitness ahead of any future international call‑ups.
