The GuardianMarinakis sues Crystal Palace over banner depicting gun to Gibbs-White's head
According to The Guardian, Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis is suing Crystal Palace for defamation after supporters displayed a banner depicting him holding a gun to the head of England forward Morgan Gibbs-White. The banner appeared midway through the first half of Palace's 1-1 draw with Forest at Selhurst Park nearly 12 months ago.
Lawyers for Marinakis lodged the claim against CPFC Limited and "persons unknown" at the high court on Monday. The legal action comes after the Football Association already fined Palace £50,000 for the incident.
The original article noted that the banner caused widespread condemnation at the time. Palace have not yet commented on the defamation claim, which is now set to be examined by the courts.
