The GuardianEmery vows to keep Aston Villa moving forward as they take on PSG
Unai Emery insists Aston Villa will continue to progress despite a summer of significant change, as he prepares his side for Wednesday's Super Cup clash with Paris Saint-Germain at the Red Bull Arena in Salzburg.
The ebullient Villa manager was in a relaxed and playful mood at the pre-match press conference, cracking jokes about his improving English and playfully impersonating captain John McGinn, who sat beside him at the top table.
Emery was also quick to address questions about the club's recent upheaval, both on the pitch and in the dugout. "You ask about the changes of coaches and players, but McGinn is intelligent and his answer was fantastic," he said with a smile. "When he arrived here [in 2018] they were in the Championship and every year since there have been changes and still the club has moved forward."
According to The Guardian, Emery's confidence was evident as he spoke about his fourth full season in charge, making clear that Villa are determined to keep their upward trajectory despite taking on the European champions.
