BBC SportFA bans solid perimeter walls around pitches after Billy Vigar death
The Football Association has banned solid perimeter walls around pitches following a safety review prompted by the death of former Arsenal youth player Billy Vigar, according to BBC Sport.
The ruling means that solid walls surrounding the field of play are no longer permitted. The FA introduced the ban after the review concluded that this type of structure should be removed from grounds.
Billy Vigar, who had come through the youth ranks at Arsenal, died in an incident that led the governing body to re-examine pitch perimeter safety.
Clubs across the English football pyramid will now be required to ensure their stadiums comply with the new regulation. Changes to existing infrastructure may be necessary as a result.
