Guimarães to Arsenal? Newcastle Rumours Follow Howe Exit

According to The Guardian, today's transfer rumours have a distinctly Geordie flavour. Eddie Howe, the now-departed Newcastle boss, presumably won't be reading this page for a while. He may instead be seeking some beach time, looking out to sea and mentally preparing his audition for the England job, while his assistant Jason Tindall works on trying to be as quick over the first few yards as Anthony Barry.

Newcastle fly out to La Manga on Friday for a pre-season training camp. It remains to be seen whether Bruno Guimarães, a £75m Arsenal target, will turn up at the airport, meet the squad in Spain or send the lads a farewell on social media while house-hunting in London.

The Guardian adds that the very latest reports suggest a deal has moved closer following Howe's exit. As ever, these are rumours for now, but they give Newcastle supporters plenty to ponder before the squad departs for Spain.
